The second teenager accused of murder in the fatal beating death of a taxicab driver in Waipahu earlier this year will face charges as an adult in Circuit Court.

Kilani DeRego was 17 years old when police said he and another teen beat taxi driver Charlys Tang in a supermarket parking lot in May. DeRego turned 18 in July.

Honolulu police charged DeRego with second-degree murder as an adult Friday after a state Family Court judge waived jurisdiction over the case.

DeRego made his initial appearance on the charge in Honolulu District Court yesterday.

Police charged the other teenager, Michael Robles, 18, in May.

Both teens remain in custody unable to post $250,000 bail.

Bystanders found Tang lying in a pool of blood in the parking lot of the Waipahu Times Super Market parking lot in the early morning of May 1. It was Tang's 41st birthday.
