Thompson's family thanks Kauai for aid

By Star-Advertiser staff

Family members of Nola "Becky" Thompson thanked the Kauai community yesterday for its support in the recent search for Thompson.

Thompson, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., was reported missing on Sept. 2. Her body was discovered in a stream bed near a waterfall west of Wailua after an eight-day islandwide search.

A preliminary autopsy report determined there were no signs of foul play. Toxicology reports are pending.

Thompson vacationed in Kauai to celebrate her 45th birthday.

Thompson's family members thanked many individuals and agencies, including the Kauai Police Department, Kauai Fire Department, Kauai civil canine search team, Kauai Beach Resort and the Visitor Aloha Society of Kauai. Sue Kanoho of the Kauai Visitors Bureau, Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry, Assistant Police Chief Roy Asher and Gina Kaulukukui of Life's Bridges Kauai were among the individuals whom family members thanked for their assistance.

"There are not enough words to describe how much we appreciate all of the expressions of comfort we've received from so many people who never even knew Becky," said her mother, Pearl, in a written statement.
