Clerk, 82, halts check forgery attempt

An alert 82-year-old clerk caught a 34-year-old man who tried to cash a forged check Friday at Pearl Kai Shopping Center.

When the man presented the check at 1:46 p.m., the clerk called the account holder, who denied writing the check or knowing the suspect.

The clerk called police and officers arrested the Kapolei man on suspicion of second-degree forgery and unauthorized possession of personal information.

Waianae man charged with ID theft

A 63-year-old Waianae man was arrested Friday and charged on suspicion of multiple counts of identity theft.

Hervie E. Messier was charged with 10 counts of third-degree identity theft, a Class C felony. He was released on $2,000 bail pending an appearance Thursday in state Circuit Court.
