Tripler Army Medical Center is due to get a sleep lab.
The military hospital in the past had to refer patients with possible sleep disorders to other facilities for treatment. But now Tripler says it should be able to treat such patients on site.
The Tripler Sleep Lab and Concussion Center is opening tomorrow on the ninth floor of the hospital's B wing.
The University of Hawaii at Hilo has launched a new initiative aimed at addressing rural health problems.
The Center for Rural Health Science will draw together physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care providers to examine rural health issues throughout the Pacific via research, education, community service and policy changes.
The initiative was announced last week by Chancellor Donald Straney.
The center's director will be Dr. Karen Pellegrin, director of strategic planning and continuing education at the pharmacy college.
Kokee State Park campgrounds on Kauai will be closed from tomorrow to Thursday for painting.
Workers will paint the campground restroom, picnic tables, pavilion and the old park headquarters building. The campground will reopen on Friday.
The project is part of a continuing effort to upgrade state parks.
Painting will continue at other parks within Kokee and Waimea Canyon state parks through at least mid-November, weather conditions permitting.
Work will be done at the Puu Ka Pele picnic area, pavilion, restrooms and log shelters and the restrooms at the Puu Hinahina and Waimea Canyon lookouts.
The lookouts will remain open to the public while work is being done. Portable toilets will be provided.
