Schofield soldier dies of injuries

A Schofield Barracks soldier died in Germany of injuries sustained in a noncombat incident in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said yesterday.

Staff Sgt. Aracely Gonzalez O'Malley, 31, of Brawley, Calif., died Oct. 22 in Homburg, Germany, of injuries sustained Oct. 12 at Mazar-e Sharif. She was assigned to the 307th Integrated Theater Signal Battalion, 516th Signal Brigade, 311th Signal Command, Schofield Barracks.

Hilo man faces charge of burglary

Big Island prosecutors charged a 27-year-old Hilo man with first-degree burglary after he surrendered to police Monday morning.

Seth Stellar was being held at the Hilo police station cellblock in lieu of $25,000 bail.

A 69-year-old woman reported that she awoke early Monday morning to find a man in her Waiakea Uka home. She confronted the suspect who escaped on foot. The victim was unharmed in the incident.

Stellar made his initial appearance in court to face the charge yesterday morning.

 

Public library in Makawao set to reopen

Makawao Public Library will reopen at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, after being closed for Americans with Disabilities Act improvements and parking lot renovations.

The book drop, at 1159 Makawao Ave., reopened Oct. 19 for patrons to return books and other library materials. The Makawao library is open noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

 

Coming up

An online auction for lost-and-found items from the Honolulu Airport will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Monday at auction.ehawaii.gov. Surrendered property and lost-and-found articles, including jewelry, digital cameras, laptop computers, souvenirs, clothing, tools, knives, bicycles and other items, will be available for bid.
