Santa's mainland mailing deadline is Dec. 17

Packages and cards headed for overseas destinations should be sent by Dec. 10

The U.S. Postal Service is recommending that residents mail holiday gifts and cards within the next two weeks to ensure delivery by Christmas to overseas and international recipients.

First-class and priority mail heading to international and overseas military destinations should be mailed by Dec. 10. First-class and priority mail headed to the mainland should be mailed by Dec. 17.

Procrastinators, don't fret. You have until Dec. 22 to send packages to the mainland via the Postal Service's expedited Express Mail service.

Five post offices across Oahu will extend hours on the following dates:

» Honolulu Airport: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 12, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 13-17, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 18, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 20

» Ala Moana: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 12, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 13-18 and 20

» Makiki: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 20

» Mililani: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 and Dec. 18

» Waialae-Kahala: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 20

The Postal Service's website will post the holiday hours beginning Monday at www.usps.com.
