Boy, 3, drowns in whirlpool bath

A toddler drowned in a whirlpool bath at a Makiki condominium Sunday, authorities said.

Police said the 3-year-old boy's older sister found her brother in the tub at the Camelot apartments on Liholiho Street at about 3 p.m. Witnesses administered CPR until paramedics arrived at about 3:15 p.m.

An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said paramedics took the boy to the hospital in critical condition. The boy died at the hospital Sunday night, police said.

2 men sought in attempted robbery

Hawaii County police continued looking for two men who tried to rob a 57-year-old Hilo man in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant sometime between 9 and 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the men tried to take the man's wallet while he was in the lot of the McDonald's at 255 Kinoole St.

One of the robbers is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall with a husky build and shoulder-length black hair. He was wearing a baseball cap backward. The other was described as 6 feet tall and 185 pounds with short hair and earrings.

Hilo woman was last seen on Saturday

Big Island police were investigating the disappearance of a 46-year-old Hilo woman.

Myra M. Hatayama was last heard from early Saturday morning, police said.

"A detective is assigned to the case," Criminal Investigations Section Lt. Gregory Esteban said. "We have concerns about her disappearance. At this point we cannot exclude foul play. We are following some leads."

Hatayama is described as 5 feet tall and about 110 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair, brown eyes and a tan complexion. She was last seen wearing a gray tank top, gray shorts and slippers.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Detective Reed Mahuna at 961-2384.
