Woman arrested in alleged robbery

 A 26-year-old woman was arrested after she and a man allegedly entered a woman’s Moiliili home Tuesday and stole from her.

 The woman was arrested Wednesday morning at the Kapiolani Boulevard bar where she works.

 Police are still looking for a man involved in the robbery.

 Police find suspect in Dec. 2 assault

 A University of Hawaii at Manoa graduate student was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with an assault that took place on campus in December.

Police said the man, 32, is accused of striking another male student, 26, on the head with an undescribed object at a “Thank God It’s Friday” social event on Dec. 2. The suspect was released pending investigation.

Bank donates $25K toward jobs center

American Savings Bank has given a $25,000 grant to The Arc of Hilo to support a new job creation and community support serv­ices center in Hilo.

The contribution brings The ARC of Hilo one step closer to breaking ground on a new $10.7 million, 17,600-square-foot facility, which will provide the space needed to increase the number of workers assisted in skill training, vocational training and self-sufficiency counseling. Once complete, the center is expected to create more than 300 jobs over five years.

The Arc of Hilo is a nonprofit organization that provides serv­ices to people with developmental and other disabilities.

1,166 acres burn as lava blaze spreads

Fires started from the Kamoa­moa eruption of Kilauea Volcano burned more than 1,166 acres over two days, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park said Wednesday.

Gusty winds Wednesday pushed the fires southwest toward Holei Pali, park officials said in a news release. Park firefighters are holding the blaze to the east and north of Chain of Craters Road, which remains closed at Mau Loa o Mauna Ulu. California firefighters are expected tomorrow as reinforcements.

The lava-ignited fire is moving through an area of uluhe fern and ohia that has burned at least twice due to lava flows, the park said.

Police seek leads in theft of swimsuits

Kauai police are investigating a burglary in which $7,700 worth of swimwear was taken from Sweet Bikinis in Poipu between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
