Almeida, also known as "Uncle Ernie" and "Maka‘i," 87, of Hilo, formerly of Poipu, Kauai, a retired Kauai Police Department sergeant and district commander, Hyatt Regency Kauai employee and Army sergeant who served during World War II, died in Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. He was born in Koloa, Kauai. He is survived by sons Mark and Robert, daughter Marlene Maze, brothers Harold Kang and William Almeida, sister Lucille Yuen, caregiver Ruby Gacusana, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
