Fans of Elvis Presley from Hawaii, the mainland and the world gathered at the Neal Blaisdell Center on Monday to view the 40th-anniversary broadcast of Presley’s “Aloha from Hawaii” concert, shown on a 20-by-60-foot screen.
The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii in Moiliili hosted the New Year’s Ohana Festival on Sunday, an annual celebration featuring food, crafts, entertainment and cultural demonstrations. Michael Dunn, left, and Takao Oba were among those painting calligraphy at the event.

Kamehameha students hopped up the stairs as part of their physical training for softball Friday afternoon at the school’s Kapalama campus. The girls were preparing for upcoming tryouts.
All that remains of the road signs on utility poles along a portion of Kamaaha Avenue in Kapolei is a red circle with a slash, the universal symbol for “No.” However, motorists can only guess at what is kapu since the wording is faded. They might be No Parking signs, since other signs along the avenue have a “P” under the red slashed circle.
