When it comes to the economies of the 21-member nations that make up the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, size matters. Nations with the largest gross domestic product typically have the healthiest economies and the most clout. Since a nation's GDP equates to the total market value of all final goods and services that it produces, essentially it is used to measure wealth. APEC works to improve businesses relationships and international trade among members. Currently, APEC economies account for 43 percent of world trade and 55 percent of global GDP, purchase 58 percent of U.S. goods exports, and supply 2.7 billion consumers. Seven of America's top 15 trade partners are in APEC.
