Search resumes for missing Big Island bodyboarder

By Star-Advertiser Staff

POSTED:

Big Island fire and rescue crews resumed searching this morning by land, sea and air for the body of 33-year-old bodyboarder last seen Monday afternoon at Kaimu Beach near Kalapana.

The bodyboarder has been missing since 3:54 p.m. Monday when witnesses reported seeing a bodyboarder was in distress in the area's high surf. The man went under pounding waves, then resurfaced face down in the surf. That was the last time he was seen.

Yesterday, 14 Big Island firefighters and the department's rescue boat and helicopter searched from dawn to dusk.
