U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii is saying the House should not vote on the tax cut compromise as brokered by President Barack Obama and Republican congressional leaders.
A spokesman for Hirono, a Democrat who represents the state's 2nd Congressional District, confirmed that she supported a nonbinding motion opposing a floor vote on the current tax accord during a closed-door caucus of House Democrats Thursday.
It was not clear, however, if Hirono would also oppose the compromise as now written if a floor vote were held.
Republican Rep. Charles Djou of Hawaii's 1st Congressional District supports the pact. So do Democratic Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye, though reluctantly.
