The National Weather Service canceled a flash flood warning for Oahu for Friday night. But forecasters say more rain is possible Christmas Day and heavy showers are predicted starting Sunday night.

Rain falling at a rate of more than 2 inches an hour near Kaneohe prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for Oahu just after 6 p.m. Friday.

The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary, forecasters said.

Locations in the warning included Kaneohe, Waiahole, Waikane and Kahaluu.

Saturday morning should be sunny.

But forecasters say there’s still a lot of moisture in the air and that means that the afternoon heat could generate showers.

In addition, a cold front is heading towards the islands from the northwest. The approaching cold front will bring southerly winds by Saturday and partly cloudy skies on Sunday.

The weather service has also issued a flood potential outlook because of the possibility of heavy rain on Oahu and Kauai starting Sunday night through Tuesday.
