Firefighters rescued three hikers at two separate East Honolulu locations yesterday.

At about 10:20 a.m., firefighters helped a woman who appeared to be in her 20s who stumbled and fell along the Koko Crater trail, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

The woman and two other hikers were about two-thirds of the way up the trail when they called for help. After several firefighters hiked up the trail and treated the injured woman, a rescue specialist rapelled down from the Fire Department's Air 1 helicopter and placed her in a rescue basket.

She was then flown to an ambulance at a landing zone nearby, Seelig said.

The injuries were not serious, he said.

Around 12:30 p.m., two women in their 40s or 50s got lost while hiking along  Kuliouou Valley trail. Neither was injured.

"They apparently took a wrong turn and ended up climbing up toward the ridge and realized they weren't certain where they were going."

Air 1 located the two women and a rescue specialist helped bring them out by placing them on a sling load device. They were then airlifted to a landing area, Seelig said.
