Oahu's first baby of the new year was born at Tripler Army Medical Center at 12:25 a.m.

She was late.

Her mother, Noelle Tamashiro, 19, said daughter Tehani was due Christmas Eve.

Tehani weighs in at 6 pounds, 13 ounces and is 20 inches long.

At Tripler this afternoon, mom wore a big smile as her daughter slept in her arms.

Tamashiro was also born at Tripler, and will turn 20 in two days. She's training to become a dental hygienist and works at Schofield Barracks.

Her parents, Sharlene and Nolan Tamashiro, say they are thrilled that their grandchild is 2011's first baby on Oahu.

"It's special," said Nolan Tamashiro, who retired from the Air Force.
