Two people died and one was in critical condition after a multiple-car accident tonight on Kunia Road.
Five victims were taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, police said.
Police closed off Kunia Road while ambulance crews took away victims. The crash scene apparently covered considerable distance, complicating the investigation, which was expected to last late into the evening or into the early morning hours.
Some of the occupants of the vehicles apparently were not wearing seat belts and were thrown, according to initial reports.
The crash happened at 6:56 p.m. near Kunia Store, fronting 94-1500 Kunia Road. The area is dark at night.
Police were rerouting southbound traffic at Lyman Gate and Wahiawa-bound traffic was being turned around in Royal Kunia. All vehicles from Wahiawa will be turned around before the pineapple fields, police said.
Police dispatch reports said at least one pickup and two cars were involved and family members of the victims were gathering at the scene.
