Boise State rolls past Hawaii in men's basketball

By Star-Advertiser staff

Another cold shooting spell to start the second half spelled defeat for the Hawaii men's basketball team tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Boise State scored the first 12 points after intermission en route to a 79-55 Western Athletic Conference victory. La'Shard Anderson scored 20 points as the Broncos (11-5, 4-0) handed the Rainbow Warriors (9-7, 0-4) their fourth straight loss.

Hawaii scored 15 points in the second half Thursday in losing to Idaho 59-44. Last night, the Rainbows scored 24 after halftime.

Hawaii managed just five free throws in the first nine minutes of the second half, going 0-for-10 from the floor to start. Zane Johnson ended the drought on a jumper with 11:13 left that brought the Rainbows to 51-38.

Johnson led Hawaii with 18 points and Vander Joaquim added 12 before fouling out with 8:05 remaining. Joaquim was hampered by fouls for most of the second half, assessed with two questionable intentional fouls after grabbing rebounds and throwing his elbows.
