The Hawaii Supreme Court has denied a request by Ronald G. S. Au to be reinstated to the practice of law.
Au, 74, was suspended on July 22, 2005, from the practice of law for five years for violating the Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers.
During the suspension, Au represented himself and Gourmet Delite Inc. in arbitrating issues in a business lease case, which was a violation of the rules of the Hawaii Supreme Court, the court said.
Au could represent himself, but not Gourmet Delite, the court said.
In the decision issued Monday, the court said Au may not seek reinstatement to the practice of law until Dec. 31, 2012.
In the 2005 ruling suspending Au for five years, the court said the Office of Disciplinary Counsel proved that he violated 13 professional rules.
Those rules included requiring a lawyer to provide competent representation and prohibiting a lawyer from engaging in “dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation,” the court said.
