The University of Hawaii's Board of Regents have extended President M.R.C. Greenwood's contract.

The contract with Greenwood, who took over the presidency of the 10-campus system in July 2009, was extended to July 31, 2015. The regents took the action Thursday.

Regents Chairman Howard Karr said in a statement that Greenwood has steered UH during a time of drastic budget cuts while moving forward on critical projects, including the UH Cancer Center and the proposed Thirty Meter Telescope on the Big Island.

Karr also cites her involvement in the planned transfer of UH's athletic teams to the Mountain West and Big West conferences.

He says the regents believe Greenwood has demonstrated her effectiveness and commitment to the university.
