Pearl Harbor-based destroyer to return from deployment

By Associated Press

A Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile destroyer is due to return from a seven-month deployment to the Middle East and western Pacific.

The USS O'Kane and its 300 officers and crew are scheduled to arrive at Pearl Harbor tomorrow.

The O'Kane is equipped to hunt submarines as well as counter surface ships and airplanes.

The destroyer was sent to the 5th Fleet's area of operations, which includes the Persian Gulf and the pirate infested waters off the coast of Somalia. It also spent time in the 7th Fleet's area of operations, which stretches from the international date line to Japan, Southeast Asia and India.
