Workers at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa captured a 19-year-old man who allegedly attempted to rob a 39-year-old valet last night, police said.

The valet was retrieving a vehicle at about 8:30 p.m. when he was attacked by a man hiding in the back seat, police said. The suspect grabbed the man and demanded money. But the valet broke free after a brief struggle.

Co-workers at the hotel heard the man's calls for help, pursued the suspect on foot and held him until officers arrived, police said.

The 19-year-old man was arrested across the street near St. Augustine's Church on Ohua Avenue.
