Hawaii-born Bruno Mars, a Grammy nominee in six categories, stepped into the winners' circle this afternoon when "Just The Way You Are," the lead single off his debut album, "Doo Wops and Hooligans," was named the winner in the Best Male Pop Vocal category. Mars prevailed over Michael Buble, John Mayer, Adam Lambert and the late Michael Jackson to win the Grammy.
Mars was also nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Producer of the Year (Non-Classical), Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, but those awards went to other artists.
Mars is the first national recording artist with Hawaii ties to win a Grammy for a debut release since Bette Midler won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1973.
