Basketball player Anthony Carter, volleyball player Yuval Katz and football and track star Richard Furtado were announced today as the latest inductees to the University of Hawaii's Sports Circle of Honor, the school said.
They will be honored at a luncheon Thursday and be introduced at halftime of that night's UH basketball game at the Stan Sheriff Center.
They will be the 29th group to be enshrined since the Circle of Honor was established in 1982.
Carter was the WAC player of the year in 1997 and still plays in the NBA. He was a two-time Associated Press honorable mention All-American.
Katz helped to popularize men's volleyball at UH in the 1990s earning American Volleyball Coaches Association player of the year honors in 1996. He helped guide the school to NCAA tournament appearances in 1995 and '96.
Furtado was an all-around football player on the undefeated Wonder Team of 1935 and threw a touchdown in the 14-0 upset of California on New Year's Day. He also ran track at UH and served as head coach from 1935-'37.
Furtado died in 2006 at the age of 93.
