Hawaii basketball senior forward Bill Amis was named to the All-Western Athletic Conference second team announced this morning by the league.

UH junior guard Zane Johnson was an All-WAC honorable mention and was also named to the All-Newcomer team.

After Utah State claimed its fourth straight WAC regular-season title, Aggies forward Tai Wesley was named the WAC Player of the Year while USU coach Stew Morrill was the Don Haskins Coach of the Year.

The WAC first team was Wesley, USU guard Brockeith Pane, San Jose State guard Adrian Oliver, Boise State guard La'Shard Anderson and New Mexico State forward Troy Gillenwater.

Besides Amis, who averaged 15.1 points and 7.5 rebounds, the second team was USU guard Brian Green, Idaho guard Jeff Ledbetter, Nevada forward Dario Hunt and Fresno State center Greg Smith.

Johnson, UH's leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, is nearing the UH single-season record for 3-pointers heading into next week's WAC tournament. He was joined by Nevada guard Deonte Burton, Nevada forward Olek Czyz, USU's Pane and Fresno guard Tim Steed on the newcomer team.

Burton was the WAC Freshman of the Year.

UH, despite having one of the better defenses in the WAC, did not place any players on the All-Defensive team.

The WAC coaches voted for the postseason awards.

Fifth-seeded UH (18-11, 8-8 WAC) plays eighth-seeded San Jose State in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.
