UH's Johnson named WAC Player of the Week

Hawaii junior guard Zane Johnson was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in games at San Jose State and Fresno State last week.

Johnson, UH's leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, scored 26 in a 77-71 win at SJSU, hitting six 3-pointers, and followed that up with 21 points in an 80-75 loss at Fresno.

He shot a combined 17-for-28 from the field, including 10-for-19 from 3-point range. 

The Arizona transfer has 94 3s on the season, just three short of Michael Kuebler's UH-record 97 heading into Wednesday's game against SJSU in the first round of the WAC tournament in Las Vegas.

It was the second such award for UH this season. Senior point guard Hiram Thompson was the recipient in the first week of play.
