Governor appoints Wildman as Maui circuit judge

By Star-Advertiser Staff

POSTED:

Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced today his appointment of Joseph L. Wildman to a 10-year term as a Maui Circuit Court judge.

Wildman will replace Joel August, who retires today.

"I have full trust and faith in Joe's experience and judgment," the governor said in the announcement. "He always put the interests of the people first and I believe he will serve honorably on the Second Circuit."

Wildman has worked with the Maui firm of Takitani and Agaran since 2004. He is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the Southwestern University School of Law.

The appointment is subject to Senate approval.

Abercrombie picked the Wildman from a list of candidates sent to him by the Judicial Selection Commission earlier this month. Under the state constitution, the commission submits four to six names to the governor for circuit judgeships.

Unlike his predecessor Linda Lingle who released the names and sought public comments on the candidates, Abercrombie is not making the names of the candidates public.
