The earthquake and tsunamis that hit northeastern Japan have delayed the travel plans of a Honolulu Zoo tiger cub.

A Sumatran tiger cub named Keahi had been scheduled to be shipped last week to the Yagiyama Zoo in Sendai, a city in the area hardest hit by the disasters. Now, Honolulu zookeepers plan to continue caring for the cub and his brother, who is also waiting to move.

Sidney Quintal of the Honolulu Department of Enterprise Services told Hawaii News Now the Yagiyama Zoo asked if Honolulu could hold on to the cub until it's able to take him. Quintal says the Honolulu Zoo is more than happy to help.

Quintal says the Yagiyama Zoo itself is in fairly good condition but the surrounding area didn't fare as well.
