UH-Manoa officials issue security alert after rash of car break-ins

By Star-Advertiser staff

A rash of car break-ins at the University of Hawaii at Manoa has prompted a security alert on campus.

Campus Security officials said eight vehicles were broken into while parked at the UH Manoa campus over the last week. Six happened over the weekend.

Five were in the student housing parking, two were in faculty housing parking and one was in the law school parking lot.

The thief, or thieves, broke into the cars by punching door locks or breaking the passenger window.

Campus Security is recommending people not leave valuables visible in parked cars, even when locked.
