A Big Island man has been charged with stabbing his son at their Kimo Nui street home in Waikoloa Village over the weekend.
Police said 50-year-old William Ford Jr. stabbed his 28-year-old son once in the upper right side of the chest and fled the home where they both lived.
Fire Department rescue personnel took the victim to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he remains in good condition.
Ford turned himself in at the Kona police station in Kealakehe at about 12:50 p.m. Saturday. He was arrested and held at the cellblock while detectives continued the investigation. On Sunday, detectives charged Ford with first-degree assault and abuse of a family/household member. He was released after posting $35,000 bail.
