By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

Brock Stassi finished a home run shy of the cycle, driving in three runs as Nevada hammered Hawaii 10-0 on Friday evening in a game called in the seventh inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Six of the Wolf Pack's 13 hits went for extra bases at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev.

Freshman Jarrett Arakawa (5-3) was roughed up for seven hits and six runs — four earned — in four innings, walking one and striking out three.

Collin Bennett had UH's only hit in the first six innings.

Pinch hitters Michael Blake and Kalani Brackenridge singled in the seventh inning as UH loaded the bases with one out, but couldn't score.

The loss dropped Hawaii (25-20, 10-4 Western Athletic Conference) into a first-place tie with Fresno State, which beat Louisiana Tech 9-4 on Friday.

Nevada improved to 17-24 overall and 6-7 in league play. Troy Marks (3-4) went the distance for Nevada.

The series ends with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
