LAST UPDATED: 11:02 a.m. HST, May 14, 2011

Honolulu police are looking for a male suspect in the death of a homeless man who was found unconscious at Aala Park near Chinatown Wednesday morning.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 47-year-old Gordon Lindberg.

Detectives reclassified the case as a homicide after the city Medical Examiner's Office determined Lindberg died of blunt-force trauma to his head.

Lindberg was found unconscious at the park about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and taken in serious condition to Kuakini Medical Center, where he died that evening.

A homeless man who lives at the park told the Star-Advertiser he saw Gordy and another man exchange words before the other man punched him in the face. He said the assailant, whom he knows as Barney, walked away towards Nimitz Highway.

Homicide Lt. David Kamai said they have identified a suspect and are trying to find him. He declined to give further details.
