Police arrested an 18-year-old man whose attempt to steal another man's wallet near Pearlridge Center was foiled with the help of bystanders yesterday.

The victim, 43, was sitting at a bus stop near the shopping mall at about 5:20 p.m. holding his wallet in his right hand when another man snatched it and ran off, police said.

The victim chased the suspect and was able to capture him with the help of two bystanders who also helped detain him.

The suspect, who has no local address, is being held pending a second-degree theft charge.
