Kauai is getting a new bridge that should relieve traffic congestion between Lihue and Kapaa.
The state Department of Transportation is scheduled today to dedicate a $29 million project that replaced the old single-lane, northbound bridge on Kuhio Highway with a new two-lane bridge.
The new bridge adds an additional traffic lane and a separated pedestrian and bicycle path across the Wailua River.
Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz, Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho and Annette Baptiste, widow of the late Mayor Bryan Baptiste, are due to attend the dedication ceremony at the Aloha Beach Hotel near the bridge.
