LOS ANGELES >> Manny Pacquiao has settled a defamation lawsuit against other boxing world figures who intimated he used performance-enhancing drugs, a lawyer for the boxer said Wednesday.

Terms of Pacquiao's settlement with fellow boxer Oscar de La Hoya and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions were confidential, attorney Daniel Petrocelli said.

Messages left with Schaefer and de La Hoya attorney Jeffrey Spitz weren't returned.

Pacquiao claimed in his suit that he has never tested positive for any performance-enhancing drugs, but that de La Hoya and Schaefer — along with boxing rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mayweather's father and uncle — embarked on a campaign to make people think he used drugs.

Petrocelli said Mayweather and his family members weren't involved in the settlement and that the suit would continue against them. Mayweather lawyer Mark Tratos didn't return a call.

News of the settlement came about six weeks after a federal judge in Nevada rejected a defense motion arguing that Pacquiao's case lacked merit and asking for its dismissal.
