Investigators returned this morning to the scene of a fire that caused an estimated $350,000 damage to a Mililani home overnight.

The fire was reported at 11:13 p.m. at a single-family home at 94-326 Apele Street, said Capt. Terry Seelig, a spokesman for the Honolulu Fire Department.

Two women who were sleeping in the home escaped without serious injury after they were awakened by the smell of smoke, Seelig said.

Firefighters arriving on scene at 11:19 p.m. saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the single-story structure, Seelig said.

About 20 firefighters brought the fire under control at about 11:30 p.m. and extinguished the blaze at 1:40 a.m. The home appears to be a total loss, Seelig said.

The women were not seriously injured, but Seelig said they told firefighters they would go to the hospital on their own to be checked out.
