Maui motorcyclist killed in Haleakala Highway crash

A 29-year-old Haiku man was killed Wednesday when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a tanker truck on Maui’s Haleakala Highway. near Kahului Airport.

Maui police said Kaula Kaauamo died when he failed to make the turn while traveling east on Haleakala Highway near Aalele street.

The driver of the truck, 37-year-old Kahului man, was not injured.

Kaauamo was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred at 7:07 p.m., police said.

The road was closed for about two hours because of the accident.
