Motorcyclist hurt in crash in Hilo

A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after apparently losing control of his or her motorcycle and colliding with a telephone pole in Hilo early Saturday morning.

The name, age and gender of the motorcyclist were not released.

The accident occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Waianuenue Avenue fronting Hilo Union School. According to a Hawaii County Fire Department release, the motorcycle veered onto the sidewalk and struck a chain-link fence and utility pole.

The rider was thrown about 25 feet from the motorcycle.

The rider was taken to Hilo Medical Center in an unspecified condition.
