Losing bidders appeal Honolulu rail contract award

A contractor who lost a bid to build part of Honolulu's planned rail line has appealed the decision to the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
Bombardier Transportation (Holdings) USA Inc. filed the appeal on Wednesday.
Honolulu in January awarded Ansaldo Honolulu a $574 million contract to build 80 rail cars and provide power to a system control center.
Bombardier's appeal asks the state to reverse the city's decision to disqualify Bombardier's bid.
Another company that lost out — Sumitomo Corp. of America — told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on Tuesday that it's likely to appeal its loss of the contract.
Bombardier says an administrative judge must hold a hearing on an appeal within three weeks and decide on the matter within 45 days.
