The nation's poet laureate is due to deliver a keynote address at the annual Hawaii Conservation Conference next month.
National poet laureate and Maui resident W.S. Merwin is scheduled to speak on Aug. 2 at the meeting in Honolulu.
The three-day conference focuses on the forest this year.
Merwin's poems have frequently touched on upon natural themes, and conference organizers describe him as being "dedicated to the restoration of Hawaii's rainforests." The two-time Pulitzer Prize winner has written over 30 books of poetry, translation and prose.
Conference attendees are due to participate in forums and workshops related to Hawaii's forests and oceans.
The public is invited to an open house and a free learning session on Aug. 3. The meeting is being held at the Hawaii Convention Center.
