LAST UPDATED: 03:00 a.m. HST, Aug 13, 2011

McCully Street was reopened to traffic Friday afternoon after being shut down for a little more than a day following a water main break, Honolulu Board of Water Supply officials said.

The 16-inch water main, estimated to have been installed in 1928, broke at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday near 930 McCully St. between Waiola and South King streets. Four customers were affected: two, two-story walk-up apartment buildings totaling roughly 16 units, a floral shop, and a single-family home, water supply officials said.

Water service was restored about 3 a.m., but reconstruction of the road continued until this afternoon. Motorists were forced to take alternate routes or avoid the area altogether.
