Morning showers in leeward areas should taper off today. But forecasters say there's a chance of heavy showers starting tonight through Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says a low pressure system will pass just north of the islands tonight through Tuesday, creating the potential for heavier than usual trade wind showers that could spread over the mountains to leeward areas.

"The shower patterns have been pretty active for the last several days," said Derek Wroe, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

Once the weather system moves away from the islands, forecasters predict drier weather Wednesday through the weekend.
