Some UH freshmen to get a head start on medical school

By Associated Press

A new University of Hawaii program allows selected Manoa campus freshmen to get a head start on their medical school education.

University officials announced Wednesday that starting next year, up to 10 entering UH Manoa freshmen will also be accepted into the John A. Burns School of Medicine after they complete their undergraduate degrees.

UH Manoa joins 43 other universities offering a combined bachelors-M.D. program.

The students are to receive an intensive pre-med curriculum, mentoring from medical school alumni and other opportunities. They'll also receive scholarships covering undergraduate tuition costs for four years.
