Appointments to apply for a Hawaii state identification card can now be made online.

Hawaii Attorney General David Louie said this week scheduling an appointment online will cut down on wait times. Instead of showing up at the state ID office and waiting in line, applicants can make appointments online to be processed at their scheduled time.

Applicants must be present within five minutes of their appointment or the spot may be released.

Applications have been available online since 2007 through Hawaii State ID Card Express, which allows user to apply for a card, pay with a credit card and get a list of required documents needed to complete the process before visiting the state ID office.

Appointments can be made at http://stateid.ehawaii.gov.
