A man and woman who spent the night along a hiking trail in Kaaawa above Crouching Lion were airlifted to Kualoa Beach Park, Honolulu Fire Capt. Robert Main said.
The hikers called 911 around 6:30 p.m. Saturday saying they were lost and stranded.
The fire department's Air 1 helicopter had been searching for an injured surfer near Diamond Head and got to Kaawa around 7 p.m. after night had fallen and flying conditions had deteriorated, Main said.
"They were no in any immediate danger and no on was injured," Main said.
Firefighters had established cell phone contact with the hikers and knew their location through their phones' global positioning system, Main said.
"They were way up on the trail and it was impossible to walk up," Main said.
Firefighters resumed their search at 6:20 a.m. and airlifted the hikers out between 7 a.m. and 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Main said.
