Warning signs posted at Hilo Bay following sewage spill

Officials posted warning signs at Hilo Bay following a spill of 500 gallons of wastewater, the state Department of Health reported.
The sewage overflowed from a manhole near the intersection of Puueo and Wailuku Drive. County officials learned of the spill about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Workers cleared a blockage in the line, the state said.
Water samples will be collected. The department said people should stay out of Hilo Bay waters fronting Pukihae Street to Haili Street.
