WAILUKU >> Maui, which has the most expensive gasoline in Hawaii, is set to get a Costco gas station.
The Maui Planning Commission voted this week to approve a special management area permit for Costco to expand its Kahului store to include a gas station and car wash, The Maui News reported.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Wailuku was $4.39 today, the most expensive of the Hawaii areas tracked by AAA. The average price in Hawaii was $4.19, making it the state with the most expensive gas, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
Costco's Honolulu station was selling a gallon of unleaded for $3.92 today, according to gasoline pricing website HonoluluGasPrices.com.
There are as many as 91,000 Costco cardholders on Maui — nearly 90 percent of the island's adult residents, company officials estimated.
