Coast Guard and Honolulu Fire Department personnel located and rescued a Schofield Barracks soldier tonight after he lost control of his jet ski and spent the next several hours floating in Keehi Lagoon near the Reef Runway.
The man, who cannot swim, told rescue officials that he became separated from his jet ski and was left floating in a life jacket until he was spotted by a Coast Guard helicopter crew around 9:30 p.m.
He was first reported missing at 7 p.m. when his rented jet ski was determined to be overdue.
According to Honolulu Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Carlton Yamada, the man was transferred to Emergency Medical Services but declined to be taken to a hospital.
