Gov. Neil Abercrombie leaves Sunday for a 13-day trip to Tokyo, Okinawa and Beijing to bolster Asia relations for Hawaii and the United States.
His spokeswoman said he will be joined by Hawaii Tourism Authority officials who arranged part of the trip to reach out to international markets and strengthen economic relations before the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
The cost of the trip for the governor, his special assistant Tim McBroom, and security is about $29,000.
Abercrombie and tourism authority officials will attend meetings in Okinawa and Tokyo. Abercrombie will then attend a National Governors Association forum in Beijing.
