Temporary housing on ag land proposed for Oahu

By Associated Press

A Honolulu city council member says he has a way to provide more affordable housing.

Tom Berg is proposing that agricultural land owners on Oahu be allowed to put up temporary housing on part of their land for up to five years.

He says the homes could be pre-fabricated, modular units or shipping containers converted to homes. The monthly cost of leasing such homes would be similar to a car payment.

The proposal is up for a vote Monday before Honolulu’s zoning and planning committee.
